Dr. Kumkum Patel

The Gut-Hormone Connection No One's Talking About

MD · Double Board-Certified Gastroenterologist & Gut Health Expert

Dr. Kumkum Sarkar Patel is a board-certified gastroenterologist and the founder of a concierge gastroenterology and wellness practice in Orange County, California. She is nationally recognized for her work at the intersection of gut health, hormones, and human performance — helping patients, and especially high-achieving women, optimize their health from the inside out.

Her clinical focus spans irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and disorders of gut–brain interaction, GI motility and swallowing disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction, and women's digestive and hormonal health. She is known for an integrative, mind–body approach that treats the gut as central to overall health, energy, and longevity, and for connecting GI symptoms to the hormonal shifts of perimenopause and menopause that are so often overlooked.

Dr. Patel earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Public Health from Dartmouth before completing her medical degree at St. George's University. She finished her internal medicine residency at NYU Winthrop Hospital, her gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and specialized training in GI motility disorders at Washington University in St. Louis.

In 2024, she founded her concierge practice, now spanning three Orange County offices, and was named among the region's Top Doctors in 2025 and 2026. In 2025, she launched The IBS Harmony Method, a 12-week digital course that helps patients rewire the gut–brain connection.

A national keynote speaker, Dr. Patel explores gut health, hormones, and health optimization for high performance in women. She also serves as a Venture Partner at Wild Tree Ventures, which invests in longevity and healthcare — bridging clinical medicine and innovation as a physician who helps companies move the needle forward.
